Evin is an exceptional innkeeper. As a first time visitor to Maine, she parsed out wonderful advice which enabled us to make the most of our Acadia trip. She is extremely familiar with the various trails around the park including their level of difficulty. All her suggestions for restaurants and sites to see turned out to be spot on. The Inn is not fussy or fancy. This is Maine folks! Staying here is like staying in someone's home. I really appreciate the kuerig coffee machine in the front room as I like to grab a fresh cup at all hours. The location is excellent... just a short walk into the village, but far enough away to escape the crowds. Super clean, quiet, up to date, and comfortable. Our room seemed practically brand new. Great shower and AC....all the comforts of home, including a full size communal refrigerator where you can store food and drinks. This is a big plus! There is an excellent health food store a stone's throw away and a good grocery store around the corner. I can't imagine staying anywhere else in Bar Harbor.

This was out first time at Bar Harbor and Hopefully will not be our last. The Holland Inn was amazing, it is very close to downtown and the breakfast offered was amazing. Straight from the oven to your plate, and it was different and delicious each day. The rooms were very private and comfortable, and Evin was very helpful and told us a lot of information about the surrounding areas. We will definitely come back to the Holland Inn when we come back to the area

Loved this place! Definitely not your typical B&B decorate with ridiculous items...this place was simple but elegant. The rooms were immaculate and quite private. Every morning we had a fabulous breakfast cooked by Evin, the Inn keeper. I was totally amazed at how delicious the food was. Usually I am not a fan of eating at B&B's but please make sure you have the breakfast here. The location of the B&B is perfect.....on a quiet street away from Main Street but yet close enough to walk to the center. A perfect blend. I highly recommend this B&B.

This is the second time I've stayed here and I love it. Great breakfasts. The rooms were both very comfortable and private. Close to downtown so you can walk everywhere. Always lots of good info on things to do and see. I recommend it very highly.

This was our first time to Bar Harbor, and hopefully It won't be our last. The Holland Inn was wonderful and the innkeeper, Evin was warm and very helpful with restaurant recommendations and what to do in Acadia NP. Evin also cooked our breakfast and it was extremely good. The room was clean and comfortable. The rest of the staff was friendly and very helpful. We will stay at the Holland Inn when we return to Bar Harbor.

B&B's are not usually my first choice of accommodation, but I must say that the Holland Inn was excellent. We stayed there for a few nights during August in a couple of different rooms over the few days. The rooms were very clean, well equipped, and mostly comfortable (one of the rooms had a particularly squeaky mattress though). However, the walls are thin as you'd expect of a property like this, but then in Bar Harbor you want to be active outside anyhow. Of particular note is the breakfast experience. The inn keeper will ask if there's any food you don't like for breakfast, but I never imagined that broccoli and corn would make it onto a breakfast plate, so make sure you tell her what you don't like! As you're tucking in to your nutritious plate, the inn keeper will come bouncing in, slightly smug, ask if you're enjoying her creation and whether you have any questions for her. She's very knowledgeable and full of suggestions for hikes and activities, and anything else you'd need for a wonderful stay in Bar Harbor.

Just another 5-star review. We love B&B's and they're our default lodging option when we travel. We stayed here in 2006, again in 2013, and I suspect we'll be back again with less of a gap between visits. Pros: --Location --Clean - I'm not a germaphobe but in most hotels the bed spread is the first thing to get tossed to the floor. --Food --Price --Design - most B&B's are Victorian-style, Holland is more casual and up-to-date with modern Maine/seaside design. (We dislike Victorian design so this is very welcome) Minor cons: (not worth a star deduction) -- Low shower heads - We've only stayed in two rooms but, at least if you're in Parkman, if you're over 6' tall, you'll have to duck for the shower head. Pet peeve of mine. -- Parking seems tight - This could be just me since I drive a crew cab truck and the rest of the lot was full of compact's. -- Small rooms - Even the new rooms are tight. It was a bit of a challenge to keep my road bike in the room with us but if you're traveling and spending a lot of time in your room, you're doing it wrong. -- Schedule breakfast times due to limited seating - You have to pick one of three times on a first come, first serve basis - 7:30, 8:30, or 9:30am. -- Might be tough with young kids - With young kids the room layout and lack of amenities (e.g. a pool) might be tougher with younger kids. Major cons: -- None - We love this place and wish we could spend more time here. It's popular so plan well in advance.

If your idea of a good breakfast is an ordinary stack of blueberry pancakes, stay someplace else. Great place to stay on all counts.

My hubby and I stayed here 3 nights at the beginning of September. As soon as we arrived, Evin was there to greet us and explain the ins and outs of Bar Harbor to us. Our room (I forget the name but it was on the 1st floor in the main house, by the restroom) was beautiful. There was a big, comfy bed, 2 arm chairs, and a nice bathroom with a great stand up shower in it. Even though we were on the ground level by the parking lot, we never heard any noise at all. The breakfasts were all wonderful. Each one consisted of an egg dish (frittata, quiche, etc), a sweet (french toast, pineapple bake) and either a potato or fruit. The serving sizes are perfect - enough to keep you full but small enough where you're not rolling out of there. You pick the time you want to have breakfast - 7:30, 8:30 or 9:30. We picked 8:30 and each day we arrived to eat, we had our own fresh pot of coffee waiting for us. Evin was great at giving advice about things to do - especially on our rainy days. The location of the inn can't be beat. It is literally like 4 blocks from downtown Bar Harbor. Perfectly quiet, but still close enough to be in the heart of everything. I would definitely come back to Holland Inn if we returned to Bar Harbor!

The inn keeper is fantastic. Super helpful, friendly, and a great cook. We looked foward to our breakfast every morning and she was able to acomodate my vegan lifestyle. We stayed in the back rooms outside the main house and loved it. The room was super clean, I mean beyond clean as if we were the first people staying there. The Inn itself was in the perfect location, close enough to everything but not in the middle of it all. The room prices were reasonably priced. Apparently the shower heads are short, but I didn't notice it at 5'9 but my BF at 6'6 did :)

Excellent place to stay when you find yourself in Bar Harbor. Evin (the innkeeper) was very nice and accommodating and HOLY SMOKES can she make an amazing breakfast! We picked this place because it had rooms that fit our budget and it seemed to be the only B&B in town that didn't have the country Victorian floral thing going on. I love history and all things vintage, but didn't want to feel like I was sleeping in my grandma's house. Holland Inn didn't feel that way at all. The inn isn't right downtown among all the shops, but it's about a 10 minute walk - I think being slightly off the beaten path works to the advantage of keeping things quiet and private. Evin was very helpful without being intrusive, and she had great hiking ideas and restaurant recommendations during our short but sweet trip. Did I mention the breakfast?! I was lucky enough to score one of her cookbooks, but I know she's running out. Buy one if you can!

My wife and I spent a long weekend in Bar Harbor for our anniversary. We stayed in the Ship Harbor room, which was roomy and clean and well furnished. Breakfast was great. It's cozy food: not a lumberjack-style breakfast but good simple stuff with little touches that make it great. Love the blueberry french toast (which was actually kind of cobbler-like) and the lemon/raisin pancakes. Seconds on the baked stuff were available and devoured eagerly. Evin's really friendly, was willing to give us a few ideas on what to see in the area, and chatted with us during breaktfast. I'm a typical brooding New Englander, so having such a sociable hostess took a little getting used to, but that's my own hangup. I highly doubt there's any better place in Bar Harbor for what you'd pay for a room here. Also, special thanks to Evin for having a copy of Silverstein's "A Light in the Attic" on the bookshelf. I'm thirty but I was feeling nostalgic and ended up reading it cover to cover.

This was our first experience at a B&B and what better place to have it be in than a quaint, picturesque sleepy town of Bar Harbor? The home is beautiful and the staff were very nice. We slept in the pink room, and it's very very pink. Even the carpet is pink. My only gripes about the place was that the bed was not very comfortable and the room smelled like potpourri... I'm sensitive to smells. But the amazing breakfast made up for it. Evin was very nice and chatted with us for a few minutes after breakfast. I also liked how each of the windows (there were a lot of windows in our room) had a shade cover so we weren't blinded by the sunlight in the morning. Overall, our stay was very nice, I would definitely come back.

We visited Bar Harbor for 'leaf peeper' season and stayed three days here in the Precipice room. Wonderfully appointed room in a nice setting. The inn is a short walk to everything in town (blueberry pancakes at Jordan's!), but also quiet and peaceful. Evin is a friendly, knowledgeable host (and great chef) who really goes out of her way to make sure the guests are well attended to.

My wife and I have stayed here twice now and have had great experiences both times. The rooms here are very cozy and comfortable and at a very affordable price. It doesn't give you that antique/museum feel where you shouldn't touch anything, very relaxing. It's a short walk from the downtown area and set back from all business of tourists and hoards of cue-tips. Evin, the innkeeper is wonderful. She gives you great information about the area, great hikes, and her local take on the weather each day. Although, our favorite part about this place is the breakfast. Everyday you are treated to an amazing breakfast here. The food is creative, fresh and quite delicious. She serves everything from smoked sausage pie to vegan pancakes and will cater to your taste. Acadia is a special place for my wife and I and every time we make sure to stay at the Holland Inn

We stayed at the Holland Inn last summer and I was very impressed. First of all, the woman who owned the property was extremely accommodating to our schedule. This was a Huge Plus. Secondly, it was a beautiful place, super comfortable. And none of the floral wallpaper or old furniture some B&B's have. Real Great. Private Bathroom, TV in the room. We stayed in Bubbles The third and tastiest point was the breakfast. You get an option on when you want to eat. And the food was real good. I'd say if I had to rate it between 1-100, I'd give the food a 94. Sorry we couldn't stay longer 5 stars

stayed 2 nights in June 2007 - We choose this B&B because of the reviews of their amazing breakfasts, affordable price and friendly innkeepers. We stayed in the Holland Inn's smallest room named "Bubbles". It was on the second floor with 2 of their other rooms, Precipice and St. Sauveur. The room was very clean. The sink was in the main part of the room and the bathroom had the toilet and tub shower. There was also a ceiling fan and small closet as well as a TV with cable. The bed is built into the wall and raised up so you can only enter and exit on one side, which was fine. There were two chairs as well. The other two rooms upstairs were large with the Precipice room being the largest. Downstairs there was the breakfast room and two other common areas with information about Bar Harbor and menus of local restaurants, etc. For breakfast one morning there was an egg fritatta with fresh veggies inside, the yummiest blueberry muffins, and a strawberry and kiwi fruit salad. The other morning we had delicious blueberry pancakes, pear and apple crisp and a piece of ham rolled up with cream cheese and spices. Both breakfasts are served to you and also included coffee or tea and the most delicious fresh squeezed OJ. Also Evin comes around and offers seconds if you want them. There are only 2 seatings for breakfast 8 am and 8:45 am. Evin and Tom were very helpful with planning hikes and trips, as well as offering directions, etc. Plenty of parking on-site and a shared fridge in the common area.

We just returned from staying at the Holland Inn for the sixth summer in a row. This time we were there for 10 days. We have written reviews in previous years but feel we must submit another review this year to say again that this is a fantastic place to stay. It's hard to imagine that you could find a better place in Bar Harbor, or even an equal place. This Inn has an excellent location, comfortable rooms and totally amazing breakfasts. We can't say enough about Evin, who is owner, innkeeper and chef extraordinaire. She is an expert on Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park and the rest of the local area. She is friendly and personable in a warm and genuine way. She is there to answer questions and provide information if you want it, and she knows when to back off and not be over-bearing. In other words, she is the perfect innkeeper. And, her cooking skills are without parallel. She prepares a different gourmet breakfast every morning, all of which are beautiful to look at and delicious to eat. She will also cater to special dietary considerations. This inn has many things that are not available in most B&B's, for instance king beds, larger rooms with sitting areas, in-room refrigerators and microwaves, TVs, DVD players, tables for two people in the breakfast room, and AC. If any of these items are important to you, or if the lack of any of these items has kept you from staying in a B&B in the past, you should definitely check out the Holland Inn. It is a wonderful place and we look forward to returning next summer and for many years to come.
